MATTHEW AND FELICIA EGUNYOMI FOUNDATION Launches Maiden Scholarship Program for Okeigbo Indigent Secondary School Students
MATTHEW AND FELICIA EGUNYOMI FOUNDATION scholarship program was initiated by Mr. & Mrs. Joshua Olalekan Oluwayomi and the program was officially launched fully with great enthusiasm and optimism on the 27th of January, 2024 at Oluoke Palace Hall, Okeigbo. The NGO which is not affiliated to any political or religious organizations as it is a pure socio-economic empowerment.
The first edition focused on paying for WAEC/NECO fees examinations for the year 2024. In future, the organization is going to focus more on education of both secondary and tertiary institutions, and pay more attention to education, welfare and socio-economic development of the community at large. The selected schools for this year are Aratu Community High School, Oloroke Grammar School, Okeigbo Grammar School, and Oloruntele Grammar School.
The program was attended by the patriarch of the family, Barrister. Rufus Adekeye Egunyomi, who gave in-depth information about the foundation, the visions, the missions and the future perspective of the organization. He further commended the effort of the Chairman and the initiator of the organization, Mr. Joshua Olalekan Oluwayomi, for his great vision, love for the community, and bringing the day’s event to reality.

In his brief speech, the Chairman/President of the organization encouraged the students to have a mentor in their journey of life, and to be conscious of the development of their community and their positive impact in the nearest future. He also encouraged the recipients to perceive the awards as a great privilege and advised them to put in all their best to come out successfully in their examinations. He highlighted the need for them to see themselves as leaders of tomorrow. He implored the parents of the recipients to lay good examples for their wards in terms of good parenting; as the adage says, “Charity begins at home”. He ended his advisory message by promising that the foundation will continue by God grace to assist indigent students in future and the program will not be a one -off affair. Mr. Joshua Olalekan Oluwayomi, promised that a philanthropist organization called Community Builders for African (NGO) based in the United States to which he belongs has been deeply involved in awarding scholarship to Okeigbo indigenes and many other communities in Nigeria will continue with their educational and welfare support to Okeigbo community.

Professor A.T Akande, an English Professor from the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University urged them to recognize the value of utilizing their time wisely and doing the right thing punctually. Expressing concern over tardiness, he reminded students that success demands diligence and timeliness. He also highlighted the importance of not allowing one’s background to hinder personal success. He concluded with a congratulatory message to the parents of the scholarship recipients.

Moreover, Comrade Odekunle of Adeyemi College of Education delivered a compelling discourse on the value of education, using cultural references and personal anecdotes to engage the audience. He emphasized that education enlightens the mind and empowers individuals to contribute meaningfully to society. He encouraged beneficiaries to think of excelling in their academics. He further stressed the importance of reciprocating the foundation’s generosity by achieving academic excellence.
In their response, the parents expressed heartfelt gratitude to MATTHEW AND FELICIA EGUNYOMI FOUNDATION for their benevolence especially during this challenging time. They also offered prayers for continued blessings upon the foundation and its founder.
The program was attended by Dignitaries such as High Chief Doyin Olatunji, the Lowa of Okeigbo Kingdom; High Chief Dele Oduwale, the Ojumu of Okeigbo Kingdom; Professor A.T Akande, from OAU, Ile-Ife. Others are Chief Rotimi Oluwayomi, Prince Charles Adedeji, and Comrade Ibitayo Odekunle who gave a lecture on “Value of Education”. The parents of the awardees and well-wishers graced the occasion
